Yes, your watch is not protected against magnetic fields. The metal parts of the movement in your Staudt watch are not resistant to magnetism. This may affect the accuracy of your watch. So, make sure that you watch is not exposed to strong magnetic fields, such as speakers or MRI scanning equipment.

If your watch does become magnetised, our watchmakers have the necessary equipment to demagnetise it. The movement must then be regulated once more.

Your Staudt watch is an item of jewellery and is not made for taking part in sports and/or other physical activities.

Perspiration can lead to condensation inside your watch. If that is the case, the watch needs to be fully serviced at the Staudt service center, because the condensation may cause parts of the mechanical movement to rust.

Your Staudt watch is not made for swimming. Our watches are water resistant to three bar, which means that they can withstand a light rain shower, hand washing and other mildly damp activities. We cannot guarantee the water resistance of your watch if you wear it while swimming.

Always make sure that the crown of your Staudt watch is closed when you wear it. The crown contains a gasket that only works if the crown is closed (position 1 in the illustration below).

The gaskets in your watch can also dry out, so it is highly recommended that you have the water resistance of your watch checked each year, either by your jeweler or at our Staudt service center.

Your Staudt watch has an anti-reflective coating on which scratches may appear, but you can always have the glass replaced when you have your watch serviced at our service center.

A clean Staudt watch always makes us happy!

The box for your Staudt watch contains a microfibre polishing cloth, so you can make your watch gleam like new again. You can remove more stubborn dirt with a lightly (!) damp cloth or a soft brush. Make sure that the cloth or brush you use is clean and not too hard, otherwise you might scratch your watch.

Staudt watches are fully cleaned inside and out during service. The crystals are removed from the watch case, which is then cleaned ultrasonically. The movement is disassembled and also fully cleaned.

In principle, your Staudt watch can withstand dust. People say that anything with ‘too’ in front of it is not good and too much dust is not good for your watch. You should, therefore, remove your watch before doing jobs around the house or other potentially dusty activities.

Make sure that the crown is always closed when you wear your Staudt watch. The crown contains a gasket, which only works if the crown is closed (position 1 in the illustration below).

An automatic movement contains a rotor that winds the spring when you move your wrist. Certainly when you wear your watch for the first time (or when it has not been worn for a while) it is advisable to wind your watch. You do this by rotating the crown clockwise (30 or 40 times should be sufficient). When the crown is wound, the rotor just needs to maintain the tension in the spring. If you move around enough and wear the watch daily, you shouldn’t have to wind your watch again.

If your watch moves around too little, perhaps while doing office work, it is advisable to wind it weekly or place it in a watch winder during the evening. Doing so will retain the tension in the spring.

Our hand-wound movement has a power reserve of 50 hours. This means that, in ideal conditions, the movement will continue to work for roughly 50 hours.

We recommend, however, that you wind your watch a few turns each day, so that the spring remains at maximum tension.

Not necessarily and in the case of a hand-wound movement, certainly not. The movement of a watch winder has no positive effect on a hand-wound movement’s power reserve. In the case of an automatic movement, a watch winder may be advisable if the watch does not experience much movement. The rotor in an automatic mechanical watch winds the spring by using the energy of your wrist’s movement. If you keep your Staudt watch in a watch winder when you are not wearing it, the spring will remain wound.

Absolutely, there is nothing nicer than changing the character of your watch from time to time by fitting a different watchstrap. Perhaps one with a brighter colour or a distinguished classic colour. If you have never before changed a watchstrap, we advise you to have this done by a jeweller or watchmaker. It is easy to scratch your Staudt watch while changing the strap.
