This does not come out of the blue. In 2013, Yvo Staudt made the first watch. How he came to that is not commonplace. We ask him a few questions and get to know his story.
Why did you make your own watch? I made my very first watch in my attic room while studying classical music at the conservatoire in Pescara, Italy. I wanted to shift my focus, it was a difficult period for me. Day and night I was working on this watch, actually it was a bit of an obsessive project. It was never my intention to make more than one, I was doing it purely for myself. Well, I did dream about what it would be like to set up a real brand. But that was just a fantasy...
Wait a minute, you studied what? My mother always said 'Yvo wanted to play the accordion before he could pronounce the word'. Since I was five, I have been playing this instrument. It was my big dream to become a famous accordionist and I did everything for that. Finally, at 18, I went to study with one of the best accordionists in the world at the conservatoire in Italy. I was living my dream. But things went a little differently.
So you are self-taught? I never learned to be a watchmaker, but in the beginning I did put all the watches together. By trial and error. Incidentally, I prefer to call myself watch developer. Most of my time goes into thinking out and developing all the parts....
How did you set up the company? With my student loans, haha. In the beginning, I did everything myself, from the assemlage to the dishes. With blood, sweat and tears, I have built the company step by step over the past decade, together with the help of many. The great common denominator is my unstoppable passion for watches, combined with perseverance and resilience.
And now? I am still mainly responsible for initiating, designing and developing our watches. To then turn the end result into beautiful creative campaigns to reach fellow watch lovers. With the biggest goal of creating continuity for the Staudt watch brand and ever passing it on to the next generation. This is my life's work....
Together is much more fun. We work closely with inspired and renowned jewellers. They know everything about our products and will be happy to help you. Will you drop by sometime?
