Guilloche with blauw alligator strap

Guilloche Chronograph - Wit.

Guilloche Frosted hand-guilloché is part of the Staudt men's collection. The watch combines a frosted hand-guilloché dial with stainless steel · 18 ct gold bezel and a alligator leather strap.

The proportions, dial layout and finishing are designed to feel calm on the wrist rather than loud from a distance. It is a Staudt for someone who values restraint, craft and the quiet pleasure of mechanical detail.

Inside is a Swiss automatic chronograph movement. The watch is assembled and checked in our atelier in Ootmarsum, the Netherlands.

The technique - Guilloché

A royal technique from the sixteenth century.

Guilloché is a decorative technique from the 16th century, originally used to symbolise the position of the sovereign. In the 18th century, Abraham-Louis Breguet created the first pocket watch with a frosted guilloché dial.

One dial takes three days to make. The guilloché patterns are cut by hand on an antique rose engine: the cutter does not move across the dial, but the dial moves against the cutter. A solid 925 silver dial is fixed in shellac to an arbor with rosettes of 72 notches. Slow, meticulous work.

Yvo Staudt working in the atelier in Ootmarsum
Guilloché is like an aria by Johann Sebastian Bach. The emotion lies between the lines.”

As a boy, Yvo already wanted to study classical music. He was drawn to the edge of what he could do. As he improved, he played on better instruments, until he received his current instrument - superior to any level he could ever reach. Like a perfectly polished mirror, it reveals every imperfection.

With guilloché, there is nowhere to hide from imperfections. From the moment the solid silver dial is fixed in shellac, there is no way back - what remains is the craft of the master engraver.

Every dial is hand-guillochéd from solid 925 sterling silver. The wave pattern catches the light in constantly changing directions, so the dial changes with every movement of the wrist.
